Description
Hyraxes and Agama Lizard on Mt. Kenya Rocks. These guys live up there on the rocks. Both the Lizard and the hyraxes have to be careful not to become dinner for birds of prey. Eagles love the hyraxes. They eat them. So much for love.
The good scientists say that Hyraxes are related to elephants and manatees. Modern hyraxes are members of the Procaviidae family, the only living family within the Hyracoidea. If you ask me, I don’t see why they have to be related to elephants and manatees to be members of this great world. I just think they look just ok the way they are. Their own kind. And please let no one tell me the Agama lizard is a little relative of the dinosaurs.
As I was painting this I would imagine the hyrax in the front talking to the agama lizard. “hey colorful guy, how’re ya doin’ small fella? Ya also enjoyin’ buskin in Mount Kenya sun on these here rocks? Ya wonna be careful of them eagles and things! Some guys won’t eat straw like us, guess you also like some insect meat you carnivore! Ha ha ha! Better be careful too, these birdies will snack at you too buddy. Keep them eyes peeled. Ya bolt, we bolt, we bolt ya bolt. Deal?”
Hyraxes and Agama Lizards, Beautiful creatures of the earth. God in his wisdom created them all according to theor kind!

What a delight! I saw this pretty little lizards in Africa when I was there, but I have never seen a Hyraxe, that I know of. They are so cute, I probably would have had one for a "pet" when I was small! I love those beautiful mountains, also! A gorgeous painting, Anthony V/L
