Description
Koitalel Arap Samoei (1860 – October 19, 1905) was an Orkoiyot, the supreme chief of the Nandi people of Kenya. Samoei was born to Kimnyole Arap Turukat at Samitu in Aldai. He was the last of four sons and belonged to the Kaplelach age-set. He was the last born of his four brothers. Koitalel was very close to his father and therefore automatically went ahead to succeed his father as the Orkoryot (Prophet and Supreme Chief) of the Nandi people.
At the age of 25, Koitalel displayed great leadership abilities, courage, and prophetic powers that made him popular among his tribe. Long before the British arrived in Nandi, Koitalel prophesized about a black snake passing through the land of Nandi spitting fire. That was the train and the railway that would later be built by the British.
The story of Koitalel Arap Samoei could fill many books. Please read more about him on World Wide Web. This painting is in honour of that great Hero. Koitalel Arap Samoei another great Human being of times gone.
