Description
African drums hold a special place in the history of Africa. In Western Culture the idea of drumming is nearly always associated with entertainment or just to add to the musical quality of a song. In Africa, drums hold a deeper symbolic and historical meaning.
They have been used for various communication aspects from time immemorial. If you ever have a chance to listen to the hour-glass shaped African talking drums, you will be forever amazed. It is hard to believe that one instrument can produce so many sounds when held in different ways and styles!
A few of the African drums are Ashiko, Conga, Djembe, Djun-djun, doumbek, Rik and so many others I can’t mention here.
Drumming is of course a world over culture. I hope to one day hear an orchestra made up of all the drums and tribes of this world. Now, that would be the greatest festival the world would ever have!
