Description
The Tawny Eagle (Aquila rapax) is officially recognized as having 3 dark color variations in the feathers: Shades of dark brown, shades of grey-brown or shades of brown-black. All 3 dark morph variants have distinctive darker feathered lines just above the eyes, and the flight feathers and tails are noticeably darker in appearance. There's also a pale morph variant.
The tawny eagle's diet is largely fresh carrion of all kinds, but it will kill small mammals up to the size of a rabbit, reptiles and birds. The wingspan is 160 to 180 cm. It has a long neck and relatively short wings.
The tawny eagle inhabits open woodlands and open dry lands such as desert, semi-desert, steppes, savannas and plains. They are also found near cultivated lands, settlements and slaughterhouses.
The tawny eagle species have an extremely large range and are considered least vulnerable.

You're astonishing me. Each painting you create, I think is extraordinary. Breathtakingly beautiful, each and every one of them. What's remarkable is you manage to convey real presence to each bird; each one becomes significant. You make them matter to us, and they should matter. You represent Africa's Eagles, and no one has taken this challenging task to the sublime levels you reach. Bravo, Anthony!

This vibrant bird series would make a great collection in a book, Anthony.
