Description
The Maasai people of East Africa live in southern Kenya and northern Tanzania along the Great Rift Valley on semi-arid and arid lands. The Maasai are a semi-nomadic people who lived under a communal land management system. The movement of livestock is based on seasonal rotation.
In order for the boy to be initiated to adulthood he must prove himself to the community. The boy must exhibit signs of a grown man, by carrying a heavy spear, herding large herd of livestock.
The Maasai are still deeply rooted in culture. If you visit Kenya at any given time, you will end up seeing one of them in their beautiful attire. People imagine that they are still slaves to culture. I feel we are the ones who have lost direction as far as culture is concerned.
