Haile Selassie was born in a mud hut in Ejersa Gora on July 23, 1892. Originally named Lij Tafari Makonnen, he was the only surviving and legitimate son of Ras Makonnen, the governor of Harar.
Haile Selassie was the heir to a dynasty that traced its origins by tradition from King Solomon and Queen Makeda, Empress of Axum, known in the Abrahamic tradition as the Queen of Sheba.
At the League of Nations in 1936, the Emperor condemned the use of chemical weapons by Italy against his people during the Second Italo Ethiopian War. His internationalist views led to Ethiopia's becoming a charter member of the United Nations.
Haile Selassie is a defining figure in Ethiopian, African and the World history.

I have been in the field of fine art and illustrations for over 30 years. I...
