Description
Majestic elephants stand proudly in a sunlit savanna landscape. Their imposing tusks and textured skin are captured with vivid detail, surrounded by dry branches and soft, earthy colors. I couldn't agree more.
Elephants are the largest living land animals. Three living species are currently recognised: the African bush elephant, the African forest elephant, and the Asian elephant. They are the only surviving members of the family Elephantidae and the order Proboscidea; extinct relatives include mammoths and mastodons.
Elephants can live for up to 70 years in the wild. A study from 2008 found that elephants live longer in the wild than they do in captivity—wild elephants lived three times as long on average. While wild elephants in the study lived 56 years on average, those in captivity only lived 17 years.
